The astronomical autumn begins on Friday 22 September at 22.02 hours and will extend over 89 days and 20 hours, until December 21, when winter begins, according to the National Geographic Institute of Spain (IGN). The beginning of autumn occurs when the day is shortened to last the same as the night and that moment varies by year. That date and time may vary between September 21 and 24. In this century however, it will only oscillate between the 22 and 23 of September in the northern hemisphere.
