Granada to have Alhambra entrance guarantee for hotels

The Association of Granada Hotels is presenting a proposal to the Municipality that visitors who stay overnight in Granada city hotels can have their entrance to the Alhambra guaranteed. This is a result of the immense popularity of Alhambra with tourists (2.6 million in 2016), which results in some being unsuccessful in getting entrance tickets.

Marbella’s water reservoirs full to 97% capacity

In contrast to some of the surrounding areas of Andalucia, Marbella’s reservoir is at near full capacity. This allows the desalination plant to barely run at all, which results in big savings for the municipality. This represents a 7% increase over last year, allowing the summer increased water demand to be more easily met.

Pilgrim of 700 BMWs arrived in Estepona from Cantabria

Estepona was filled with 700 BMW motorcycles which have crossed the height of Spain from Cantabria to Andalucia. The trip has lasted 3 days and, in a symbolic act of friendly connection, it has brought water from the Cantabrian Sea to pour into the Mediterrenean. The approximately 1000 riders stayed overnight and were given a guided tour of Estepona’s landmarks.

The Hippodrome in Mijas gets a new playground

The Hippodrome in Mijas will have a new playground to provide a leisure offer to this area, in addition to increasing its amenity value. It will be an investment of approximately 680,000 euros with a term of execution of 5 months, expected in the second half of 2017.

Marbella expects highly successful Ironman in 2018

Marbella has calculated that the Ironman competition of 29th April 2018 can bring upto 12 million euros to the city. The Ironman will consist of a two-kilometer swim in the Levante Beach of Puerto Banus, another 21-kilometer run and a 90-kilometer bike ride along the road from Ojén to Cártama. It is estimated that 2000 athletes will participate.

Anniversary of awareness bench in La Concha, Marbella

On the 31st of May, a comemmoration will take place on the emblematic peak of Marbella, La Concha. It is the 1-year anniversary of installing a viewpoint with a bench, with a special purpose: to bring awareness to a rare disease called “Butterfly skin”. Since then many famous personalities have climbed to the 1,200m peak to photograph themselves next to the “bench with a purpose”.

Record rise in employment in April 2017 for Marbella

This April has been a record employment month for Marbella, where 3,500 more employees were contributing to Social Security, according to data published last week. This follows from strong increases in February and March, as shown in the table below:

70th anniversary of Ferrari in Marbella

Last weekend, more than fifty ferraris toured the streets of Marbella on the 70th anniversary of the brand, as they did before Barcelona and Madrid, which together with Marbella being the only Spanish cities with official Ferrari dealers. The Italian team also presented its last two models: LaFerrari Aperta and 812 Superfast, the most powerful in history. The final touch will be the Passione Ferrari on the weekend from May 19 to 21 at the Ricardo Tormo circuit in Cheste, the Valencian circuit.

San Bernabe – the Marbella feria

Marbella patron saint is celebrated on June 11. The day of San Bernabé is, along with the day of Carmen, one of the most important moments for the city. These festivals commemorate the Reconquest of Marbella by the Catholic Monarchs in 1485. On that week both tourists and citizens enjoy all the charm of traditional and colourful Andalusian fiestas. The celebrations start on the 7th of June 2017 in Peñuelas Centre and continue on days 8 (Santa Marta), 9 (Encarna Cantero), 10 (Miraflores), 11 (Plaza de Toros), and 12 (Los Paisajes).
